Hello!
My name is Janette Connors. I am CELTA (St Gile’s, Brighton) and PGCE (University of Oxford) qualified and have been teaching since 1990.
I have taught English at all levels, including preparation for examinations and business English.
I love interacting with students of all ages from around the world, welcoming them into my home, helping them to improve their English and showing them Brighton’s many attractions.
I speak French and a little Italian. I like to keep fit by going to the gym, playing golf, long distance walking, pilates and yoga. I enjoy going to the cinema, live music and the theatre. I also love to travel to experience different cultures and landscapes.
Brighton, the place to be...
Brighton is a very vibrant seaside city on the south coast of England. It is an interesting mix of elegant tradition, contemporary vibrancy and laid-back beach life. Many artistic people choose to live here and there are 2 universities, giving it a youthful feel.
The city is big enough to provide lots of surprises but small enough to explore easily on foot.
Brighton has a royal palace, 2 historic piers, a marina, museums and art galleries. It is lively by night with numerous pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. There is a wide range of interesting shops and cafes.
’Brighton Festival’ is an arts festival that takes place in May and the city hosts events throughout the year.
Lovely countryside lies on Brighton’s doorstep and there are numerous walks with fantastic views.
Brighton itself is also very green. Many roads are tree lined and there are plenty of parks.
London is less than an hour away by train - a perfect day trip!

Montpelier Villas, BEL's home...
I live with my partner Rod in a large Regency house in Brighton’s central conservation area. Our house was built in 1850 and has a lot of beautiful period detail yet has been completely refurbished and modernised.
Montpelier Villas is an easy 10 minute walk into the centre of the city. The sea is also a ten minute walk away, as is the train station.
Course Details
English lessons will be bespoke to you. I will ascertain your level by emailing and talking to you before the course and by assessing you when you arrive. I will adapt the course as and when necessary to ensure that you receive tuition at the right level. Lessons will be conducted solely in English and will cover grammar, reading, writing, listening and, of course, plenty of speaking. If you have any particular interests or aims they can be catered for.
What's Included
15 hours of private tuition/week. Fees can be adapted if you require more or less tuition.
Full Homestay experience, board and accommodation with a private room and bathroom.
All meals eaten at home.
Student welcome and information pack on arrival.
All English language study materials used during your stay.
A final assessment and progress report at the end of your stay, along with a record of lesson content and recommendations for further study.
2 accompanied half day excursions/week.
Transfer from Brighton train or bus station (Transfer from airports can be arranged).
